Warriors managing director steps down Gus Mackay

THE managing director of Premiership rugby club Worcester Warriors has stepped down. The move comes months after the side was bought by a consortium.

Gus Mackay, a former Zimbabwe cricket international, said he “feels the club is now in safe hands and that now is the right time for him to step down”.

Mackay’s departure comes after Warriors were snapped up by a group whose primary funder is finance specialist Errol Pope, alongside Jed McCrory, Scott Priestnall and former Premiership Rugby player David Seymour.

Mackay is a former chief executive of Sussex County Cricket Club and operations manager of Leicestershire.

He said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved with the club for all their hard work, in particular the staff, board members, sponsors and supporters for their support during this period of change.

“I wish the new owners, Alan Solomons, and all the players all the very best for the rest of the season.

“I am confident that with the new owners and current group of players, the club will grow from strength-to-strength and build on the positive start to the season in all competitions.” – Insider Media
