We are eyeing Africa, ZPC

ZPC Kariba say they have set their sights on next year’s African Champions League tournament ahead of their clash with Dynamos this afternoon. The match is viewed as a potential title decider and a draw for Dynamos could see them inch a step closer to the podium with one match still left as DeMbare would be on 55 five points and ZPC Kariba on 54 leaving the final round to decide the destiny of the coveted championship trophy.

With Zimbabwe having a single slot in the Champions League, both Dynamos and ZPC Kariba have all to fight for in the last two matches.

The power generators believe it’s possible.

“We have set our eyes on Africa yes why not? We want to also try our luck against Africa’s best,” said Saul Chaminuka, the ZPC Kariba head coach, a firm favourite for the Coach of the Year award.

Chaminuka said they were ready for the Glamour Boys and were not intimidated by the possibility of a bumper crowd at the National Sports Stadium.

“To set the record straight, it is us who requested to play at the National Sports Stadium, remember we beat them there last time. We could have gone to Gwanzura Stadium but for a game of this magnitude that venue would be too small. You know the Dynamos supporters!” said Chaminuka.

Just like Dynamos, ZPC Kariba have no players on suspension.

Dynamos have not been playing well at home of late, dropping four points which by now could have seen them wrap up the title, rendering today’s match academic.

They drew 1-1 with Chapungu before being held to a nil all draw by relegated Bantu Rovers last Sunday.

It is Callisto Pasuwa’s 100th match in charge of Dynamos during which he won 59 matches and lost just 12.

While DeMbare will be seeking to create history, their own son, Moses Chunga, will be in the City of Kings seeking a win that could all but guarantee Buffaloes another dance in the elite league next year.

Buffaloes lock horns with Chicken Inn at Hartsfield Stadium this afternoon knowing that a win will seal their PSL status.

Chicken Inn, though, are eyeing a top four slot so that they enter into the Mbada Diamonds Cup draw.

Meanwhile, Highlanders might unleash their youth brigade when they take on Shabanie Mine at Maglas Stadium tomorrow.

Acting coach, Mark Mathe, credited last Monday for throwing in rookies in the 2-1 win over relegated Chiredzi United, said the youngsters are the future of the team.

“The boys are part of the team and eligible to play just like their senior counterparts. We will continue giving them game time so that they get the necessary experience,” said Mathe who will be seeking his second win since taking over from Zambian Kelvin Kaindu.

It will be the last derby in Bulawayo when Bantu Rovers face How Mine at Hartsfield Grounds while in Hwange, it’s a battle of the miners, Hwange and FC Platinum.

A top four finish will be on the minds of the two teams.
