TelOne FC 2-3 Yadah FC

VISITING Yadah FC recorded their first win of the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League beating TelOne FC 3-2 in a match that had a controversial ending at Bata Stadium in Gweru yesterday.

The Harare-based team had gone for five matches without a win but managed to upstage the WiFi boys through two first-half goals from Prosper Kafelapanjila in the 32nd minutes, Marlon Mushonga in the 43rd and Blessing Ndereki after 74 minutes in the second-half.

TelOne FC managed to pull two goals in a space of two minutes through Kudzai Jaison on 93 minutes and Collins Chidomaya in the 95th minute.

But the match had a sad ending as referee Tichaona Tigere had to leave the stadium under heavy police escort as TelOne FC fans adjudged he prematurely blew the whistle with three minutes of time added on still to be played.

With nine minutes added time and scoring two goals in the final six, TelOne FC were on a surge and the fans thought they could get an equaliser but alas Tigere blew the final whistle much to the disappointment of supporters who then invaded the stadium.

TelOne FC coach Tendai Chikuni lamented the scoring chances which he said were wasted by his strikers especially in the first-half.

“We started slowly and we missed some scoring chances and they managed to get two goals in the first-half. But I believe it was a game of two halves because we managed to come back and scored two goals,” he said.

Chikuni said the referee’s decision is always final adding that his players should have done better.

“We were playing against wounded lions and we should have taken advantage,” he said.

Yadah FC coach Thomas Ruzive commended his players for taking the game to TelOne FC.

He said the team did not miss the services of former Warriors player Khama Billiat.

“In the other previous matches, we were playing well but failing to score and today we managed to score,” he said.

Meanwhile, at Rufaro Stadium, Harare, ZPC Kariba held hosts Caps United to a 1-1 draw.

ZPC Kariba goalkeeper Hamilton Makainganwa had a brilliant day on the field to enable his team escape with a point against giants Caps United who had to come from behind to force a share of the spoils.

Leeroy Murape gave the visitors a 39th minute lead with a superb solo effort.

But Makepekepe kept pressing and were deservedly rewarded with the equaliser when defender Hastings Chapusha headed the ball home from Godknows Murwira’s free-kick soon after the re-start.
