ZANU-PF Bulawayo province has sent a report to the party’s headquarters in Harare detailing the violent skirmishes that occurred last Sunday in a development that is likely to result in disciplinary measures being taken against perpetrators.

Violent scenes erupted at Davies Hall, the party’s provincial offices on Sunday during a provincial co-ordinating committee meeting resulting in the provincial youth league chairperson Cde Anna Mokgohloa among others being assaulted.

Anti-riot police were called to the party’s offices to control some youths who were trying to stop the PCC meeting, accusing the provincial leadership of supporting national commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere.

Some party members were injured, while others were arrested following the violence.

Yesterday, Bulawayo provincial chairman Cde Dennis Ndlovu said the provincial leadership had written to the party’s national leadership who will decide the way forward.

“We have sent the report to the party’s headquarters. As such we don’t have to continue commenting on that issue; the party’s leadership will comment on it from now,” said Cde Ndlovu.

The party’s national spokesperson Cde Khaya-Moyo has since said disciplinary measures will be taken against perpetrators of violence.

On Wednesday, Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko said individuals who were inciting violence in the province had a hidden agenda.

He said perpetrators of violence were wasting their time as they would not be elected into power through violence.

“This kind of behaviour is embarrassing and uncalled for,” he said. “It’s caused by people who are so desperate for power. People with no power, have no support and they want to use violence to force people to follow them.

“This country is being ruled by President Mugabe who has been appointed by God and the people of Zimbabwe. We all have to work under the appointed leadership and those who’re not willing to do that can leave the party.”
