ZANU-PF Midlands Provincial Chairman, Senator Larry Mavima has implored party supporters and leadership within the province to remain united as the party gears for the 2023 harmonised elections.

Senator Mavima, who is also Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister made the remarks while addressing party supporters at the Kwekwe District Headquarters on Wednesday.

His remarks come amid reports that Provincial Secretary for Security Cde Owen Ncube and Central Committee member Cde Daniel Mackenzie-Ncube, who were reportedly not seeing eye to eye, had buried the hatchet saying the party was bigger than any individual.

Their differences had also cascaded down to the supporters who were now aligning themselves to individuals instead of the party.

“Let us continue preaching peace and unity among our supporters. There is no person who belongs to any individual, people belong to the party. This thing of divisions should be a thing of the past. I should reiterate that no one is bigger than the party,” he said.

Senator Mavima said focus should be on registering to vote and mobilising five million votes for President Emmerson Mnangagwa come 2023. He said the party had no room for people who were bent on spreading falsehoods, thereby dividing people.

“Our President is on record saying that no one can put the party into his pocket, but everybody fits well into the party. There is no one who belongs to any individual but everybody belongs to the party. Discord within the party disrupts projects and programmes that the party would have lined up,” he said.

Cde Mackenzie-Ncube also sang the same hymn saying unity was key and anyone who was against unity would be fired from the party.

“We cannot tolerate anyone who is not willing to work together with others for the goodness of the party. Unity is the way forward and as you can see as your leaders, we have buried the hatchet and we urge you also to do the same and be united as we approach the election period,” he said.

Cde Mackenzie-Ncube said all the problems emanated from primary elections to choose party representatives towards elections.

“The primary elections are the root causes of divisions. but as a party we will discuss and see how best we can forge ahead and if there are any problems, we solve them and move on as one,” he said.

Cde Ncube also urged party supporters to remain united adding that he had buried the hatchet with Cde Mackenzie-Ncube.

“Whatever you used to hear about us not seeing eye to eye, yes it was true, but it is a thing of the past now. We have decided to bury our differences for the good of the party as you can see, we are now united and ready to move forward as a united front,” he said.

He urged members to stop jostling for positions as it was the main source of divisions.

The party has intensified outreach programmes preaching unity across the structures as it gears for the 2023 elections.

Supporters came from all the five constituencies under Kwekwe District which are Zhombe, Silobela, Redcliff, Kwekwe and Mbizo.
