ZIFA have been criticised for appointing practising coaches into the association’s High Performance Committee with one critic saying the coaches could be compromised. A Premier League club official, who asked not to be named said it was folly for the association to have practising coaches as advisors to the national teams’ coaches as some of them might actually be interested in the same job.

“National team coaches must not feel under pressure when selecting players but in a case where you have practising coaches being members of the High Performance Committee, national team coaches might be under pressure to select players from teams of those in the committee,” said the official.

Zifa on Thursday announced a seven- member High Performance Committee chaired by association vice president Omega Sibanda.

The other members of the committee are Sunday Chidzambwa — Vice Chairperson, Innocent Chogugudza, Rahman Gumbo, Moses Chunga, Masimba Chihowa and Zifa technical director Taurayi Mangwiro.

Contacted for a comment, Sibanda said it was unfortunate that the association was being criticised as they believed the appointed individuals were all men of high integrity who had the qualities to change the face of Zimbabwean football.

“We came up with the best we can have at the present moment and we have been doing some serious consultations hence those names. They are men of integrity and we believe we are going to change the face of football, we are winners and we won’t fail,” said Sibanda.

He said they came up with people who can analyse the game and proffer sound tactical advice to national teams coaches.

“In any event who is not employed that people feel deserves to be in the committee?” said Sibanda.
