Zifa yet to fill posts

ZIFA Matabeleland South Province chairman Nkosilathi Ncube said he hopes the association’s electoral body will come up with a roadmap to ensure other executive members’ posts are filled.

Ncube retained his position as chair uncontested, having served the province since 2010, but there were no formal nominations received for other executive committee positions for Matabeleland South.

“It is logical that the electoral board comes up with guidelines and re-opens elections. It is not just Matabeleland South with vacant posts, but other provinces as well,” said Ncube.

He said under his leadership the province seeks to come up with solutions that will counter problems associated with road networks.

“A number of bad dirt roads connecting Matabeleland South provinces’ towns and growth points is one of our major problems. Thus we have decided to divide our league into two pools where the province is divided in order to reduce teams’ travelling expenses.

“The government must deal with the road network in Matabeleland South since the geographical issues stall the development of sport in the province as a whole. As a result we are the least demanding province in terms of affiliation fees ($300 per season) having considered the distance and state of roads teams use to travel,” Ncube said.

Umzingwane, Filabusi and Matobo districts consist of teams that make up Pool A, while most Pool B teams come from the Beitbridge side.

Ncube said his administration approached Gwanda Town Council to grant them land to construct a stadium.

“We realised that infrastructure of our own is what we lack as an organisation. Fortunately, we have been granted a piece of land which we will ensure is developed into multi-sport facility.

“We should prioritise owning our infrastructure then embark on talent search and promotions by creating district leagues for juniors.”

Ncube said he will engage the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) and National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) officials to help set up junior leagues. – @DecoDecent2
