ZIMBABWE could from next year be granted the green light by continental football body Caf to conduct the highest coaching course in Africa, the Caf Pro Licence.

The Caf A License used to be the highest coaching qualification in Africa before the Caf Pro Licence. Caf will first train Caf Pro Licence instructors.

“As Zimbabwe we will apply to conduct the coaching course in the country. We might actually have the Caf Pro Licence course in the country around July next year,” said Zifa technical director Taurai Mangwiro.

According to Mangwiro, the country has 41 Caf A Licence holders, which allows them to take part in a Caf Pro Licence course.

He said as part of Caf’s E-Learning Programme for training coaches, Zimbabwe will also embrace theoretical online tests for coaches participating in Caf C, B and A courses.

“The trial run was done in Sudan and will spread to other countries including Zimbabwe where coaches taking part in Caf coaching courses will do the theory and write exams online.

“A coach must have done 120 hours of practical work which is supervised by a Caf instructor before writing the online exams.

‘‘We should embrace the changes that are being implemented by Caf to remain abreast with the rest of the continent,” said Mangwiro.

Meanwhile, Caf B License holders interested in upgrading their coaching badges can take part in a Caf A Licence coaching course scheduled for Harare in January and February 2017.

The course is divided into two modules with the first set for January 9 to 23 while the second is expected to start from February 13.
