ZRP Hwange went into the weekend in full combat for war and in a ruthless mood as they hammered table toppers Amagagasi 5-1 in a Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two Soccer League match. This was Amagagasi’s first defeat of the season.

ZRP Hwange, coached by Tazvivinga Gweme, bamboozled their opponents through goals by Mandlenkosi Ndlovu who scored a hattrick with Denzel Kutadza and Michael Munenge also getting their names on the score card.

Lungile Nyathi got the consolation for the Ndoga Nyoni coached visitors.

Nkululeko Ncube, the organising secretary for Amagagasi, wore a brave face after the match as he vowed the team would bounce back.

“This game is now history, we now need to focus ahead. Our game plan was affected by a number of injuries to key players but I am not using that as an excuse. The team has learnt lessons and we will rise and fight for the title.” he said.

Amagagasi’s title credentials will be judged on how they dust themselves up, recover from the shock defeat and continue with the fight.

Second placed Makomo were the biggest beneficiaries of ZRP Hwange’s demolition show when they notched up a vital 3-1 win over Corinthians to remain two points adrift of the summit.

Lawrence Khumbula scored a hattrick for the miners while Lucas Sibanda pulled one back for the visiting side.

At Ingagula Stadium, Mayn Ndlovu and Marlevrn Ngwenya scored a goal apiece as Ingagula edged Prison Eagles with the wardens getting a face-saver from Felestine Mudimba.

Hwange U-17 lost 0-2 at home to impressive army team Moto Moto who scored through Shaibar Dimingu and Desire Manyanga.

League anchors Brazil finally woke up from their deep slumber to pick up the second point of their campaign when they drew one all with Fire FC at Madumabisa Stadium. The team has of late been a pale shadow of the once feared unit which made headlines in the coal mining town during the past years.

Shepherd Ncube hit the nets for Fire while Brazil redeemed themselves through a goal by Visal Ngwenya.
