IN a bizarre twist of events, music power couple, rapper AKA and house DJ Zinhle yesterday ended their relationship, barely a week after AKA paid damages to the DJ’s parents for impregnating her. The couple, that has been together since 2012, shocked many followers on social networking site – Twitter – with what they called a mutual split.

“After a great deal of thought, reflection and discussion, we’ve decided to end our relationship of three years. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it,” read a statement posted on DJ Zinhle’s Twitter page.

After welcoming their baby Kairo less than a month ago, the two have agreed to be just friends. “We both wish nothing but a great future for each other and remain dear and trusted friends as well as co-parents to our wonderful baby Kairo, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We both deeply care for each other and remain close friends.”

Earlier this year, all seemed rosy with the couple posting pictures while on vacation in Mauritius on social networking sites. They had, however, kept the better part of their relationship under wraps and now, they are asking for privacy saying they will not be giving any interviews on their break-up.

After the announcement of the split, fans took to social media to express their shock and disbelief. Ledzo tweeted on DJ Zinhle’s profile: “Sorry to hear this. All the best lady.” Penelope Zinhle sent a message of support: “DJ Zinhle, sorry dear, hope you’re ok. May God be with you and keep you strong all the time, it’s only he that knows what’s best for you.”

Another twimbo tweeted: “Whaaaaaat? I was hoping you guys would get married and have more cute babies, but oh well, still sad.”

“DJ Zinhle maybe it’s the best for you, but bad for Kairo.”

It seemed the separation was well thought out as AKA had conveniently paid damages to DJ Zinhle’s family last weekend for impregnating her out of wedlock.

Unfortunately, DJs Zinhle’s family had no idea their daughter was not going to be marrying the father of her first child and was in fact going to separate with him immediately after they had finished digesting the cow slaughtered at the weekend.

DJ Zinhle’s uncle, Mbongeni Jiyane, who was part of the traditional ceremony, had been quoted by South Africa media saying: “We’d a great day when the father of my grandchild came with his family to pay damages. He paid one cow, one goat and cash for the second cow. I’m happy that he respected our tradition.”

“We became one family. It was like we’d known each other a long time. As for ilobolo, maybe one day he’ll consider that but at the moment, we’re happy that he paid damages”.
