THREE designers from Bulawayo are flying the country’s flag high at the annual Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) in South Africa where they are showcasing their array of designs.
The three designers, Nkululeko Ncube of Rebellious klothing, Sheenah Moyo of Blinq Accesories and Sidumiso Tshuma of Shadow by Sidumiso made history by becoming the first group of designers from Zimbabwe to take part in the fashion fair.

The fair, which kicked off on Thursday last week, ends on August 24. Besides showcasing their designs, the designers are networking with established designers from South Africa.

The designers are making a name for themselves in the fashion world evidenced by their recent participation at the Toronto Fashion week held early this month.

The DFF is one of the leading and most successful fashion events in Africa as it encourages a culture of entrepreneurship, as well as facilitate access to markets and networking opportunities for established and local young designers.

Moyo, who is based in Victoria Falls, founded her Blinq label – a button work accessory label which deals mainly in jewellery – in 2012. Her works have been worn by former Studio 263 actress, Tinopona Katsande and DJ Eltonic, among many other celebrities.

Shadow by Sidumiso is a clothing label established in 2004 which derived its name from Tshuma’s days at school where his schoolmates used to call him shadow because of his dark complexion. Last year, the designer dressed South African songbird Zahara, ZiFm presenter Loch Nation, Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2010 Samantha Tshuma and 5fm and Good Hope FM disc jockey Sonny Jermain.
