CENTRAL Soccer League (CSL) clubs have taken a mid-season break and resume the second half of the campaign on August 4.

The race for the sole Premiership ticket is tight in the CSL as the top six teams are all tied on 18 points at the halfway mark.

Former Premiership side Whawha, who top the table with a superior goal difference, are followed by ZPC Munyati, TelOne, Tongogara, FC Platinum Under-19 and Vumbachikwe.

The title race in the 12-team league remains wide open, with just five points separating leaders Whawha and 10th-placed FC Lasaffre, setting the tone for an interesting second part of the season.

MSU on 16 points, Sheasham (15) and Ivan Hoe Mine (13) are also in the championship race.

CSL chairman Stanley Chapeta is impressed with the level of competition and believes the second half of the season will be even more competitive.

“It has been an exciting first half of the season and despite having 12 teams, the league is proving to be exciting and this is demonstrated by the number of sides in the title race. There is no clear favourite, meaning we are likely to have a more competitive second half, with clubs believing they can get it,” said Chapeta.

“We’ve already held our half-yearly meeting where we reviewed the first half. Everything ran smoothly in the first half and we expect a smooth flow when the league resumes,” he said.

The region also held a Club Licensing workshop facilitated by Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela.
