THE Zimbabwe cycling season is scheduled to start on February 1 with the first event billed for the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

Chrispen Kazingizi confirmed that their first event will be held next week on Sunday.

“We’re holding our first event on February 1, which marks the beginning of the 2015 cycling season,” he said.

Kazingizi encouraged those intending to participate in this year’s races to register with the Bulawayo Flying Eagles Cycling Club.

“Those who want to participate in the Cycling Zimbabwe races should register with Flying Eagles Cycling Club where they’ll be issued racing licences that’ll make them qualify to compete in meetings,” he said.

Kazingizi encouraged cyclists to take part in as many races as possible to accumulate points for seeding for bigger events in the year.

“Cyclists should make it a point to compete in as many races possible as this will improve their seeding points for some of the bigger events,” he said.

Kazingizi said the season opening race will cater for all categories.

“The event will cater for every category including mountain bike races, you don’t have to own a fancy bike to qualify for the races,” he said.

Kazingizi said that registration has already started and new members are welcome.

“We’ve already started registering cyclists and new members are very welcome,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nkulumo Dube won the Mutual Cycling Club social event yesterday.

Second was veteran Rob Sinclair. Ralph Mthupha was third.

The event was held on the Bulawayo-Kezi Road.
