POLITICAL analysts have said the alliance between Dumiso Dabengwa’s Zapu and ousted Zanu-PF bigwigs led by the fired Vice President Joice Mujuru was doomed because it was a merger based on emotions rather than sound policies.

This follows Friday’s revelation by Dabengwa who was quoted saying he was working with ousted Zanu-PF bigwigs to effect regime change. At the recently ended Zanu-PF National People’s Congress, senior members that include Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and Ray Kaukonde fell by the wayside after being accused of corruption, factionalism and plotting to assassinate President Mugabe. Dabengwa told journalists that he was working with the deposed Zanu-PF members to ensure that the congress “injustice” was reversed.

Political analyst Qhubani Moyo said while it was Dabengwa and ousted Zanu-PF bigwigs’ constitutional right to associate with who they wanted, their alliance would be a sand castle.

“In my view their party is unlikely to have any meaningful impact. It’s a coalition based on anger rather than defined policies and delivery of services to Zimbabweans. Political parties formed on the basis of anger are unlikely to be accepted by the electorate and are bound to fail,” said Moyo.

Another political analyst at the University of Zimbabwe Dr Charity Manyeruke said the perceived coalition was being organised by political losers.

“It doesn’t make sense because on their own they are already weak and failures. It’s an organisation by weak characters who don’t have anybody following them. What they wanted to do is similar to what Tsvangirai (Morgan) did when he invited Job Sikhala – whose political influence is insignificant to join his party. It was a useless move,” said Dr Manyeruke.

She said Dabengwa was not in a position to comment about what is happening in Zanu-PF as he was not a member. Dr Manyeruke said the ousted members had also lost the plot by joining Dabengwa.

“Dabengwa is not a member of Zanu-PF so he has no locus standi to be commenting about the resolutions passed at the party’s congress. The congress resolutions cannot be reversed by a handful of people,” she said.

Dr Manyeruke said only people with anti-revolutionary characteristics can join the ousted members as they have proved their ineptitude.

She said even if they form a political party it would not succeed because they were rejected by the people.

Analyst Dr Lawton Hikwa said Dabengwa’s sentiments were senseless as they did not explain how he and those who were elbowed out would influence decisions that were made at the Zanu-PF congress.

“What I didn’t understand is how they are going to reverse decisions made at the congress.

Whatever transpired has nothing with Dabengwa’s party,” said Dr Hikwa.

He said Dabengwa was maybe seeking political allies instead of wishing to change decisions or systems in a political party he does not belong to.

“Maybe he is looking for a coalition of some kind or an alliance because in as far as I’m concerned I was also puzzled as to how they’ll do it. Also being in a free country they can form a coalition but I don’t see how that can relate to what happened at Zanu-PF’s congress,” he said. Dr Hikwa said even if they formed a coalition it would be difficult to make a political impact.
