SEVERAL Zimbabweans managed to sail through to the next stage of the ongoing International Tennis Federation South/Central junior circuit at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

Tadiwa Chinamo, who is seeded second, defeated Belgium’s Theo Vandeweghe 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

He will now meet either South Africa’s Cameron Petersen or Mopuri Saitejas.

Also making it through to the third round were Mehluli Sibanda and Ngonidzashe Makambwa in the boys category.

Tariro Dembo, Kimberly Bhunu and Karen Muswere also triumphed.

Dembo, who defeated India’s Naiuuti Vyas 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, believes the competition will be tougher today when she faces South African Maxine Bateman.

“The game was tough but I managed to sail through and I’m so excited about it. I was playing a competitive player.

“I now look forward to tomorrow’s (today) game and I’ll give it my best and, hopefully, I’ll progress to the next level,” said Dembo.

Mehluli Sibanda said competition was tough. “It’s good that I’m through to the next round after I played a solid game,” Sibanda said.

“I can’t promise a straight win but I’ll try my best to progress”

Andre Fenando of Angola was the victim in a 6-3, 3-6 7-6 (2) loss in a tightly-contested encounter.
