The Officer Commanding Midlands province Senior Assistant Commisioner Abigail Moyo said the commuter omnibus had 20 people on board.
“I can confirm that there was an accident that occurred along Gweru-Mvuma Road but I don’t have full details because I’m not in the office,” she said
Police sources said one person died on the spot while two others died on admission to Gweru Provincial Hospital.

The fourth person died on admission to a hospital in Harare where he was referred to after sustaining severe head injuries.
An eye witness, Twoboy Sithole, who is a commuter omnibus driver told The Chronicle that the accident occurred after the delivery van attempted to overtake a haulage truck.

“On approaching Pfende Shopping Centre, a delivery van encroached onto the right lane while attempting to overtake a haulage truck in front of an oncoming commuter omnibus and the two vehicles collided head on,” he said.
