SOUTH Africa’s favourite Afro-Soul singer and songwriter, Zimbabwe-born Berita Khumalo, is back with a fresh new look, new single and new deal with Universal Music.

Composed and produced by South African music veteran, Mojalife Thebe, affectionately known as ‘Mjakes’ in the music industry; award-winning Berita has just released a new single titled, Nguwe Wedwa, that has her signature style all over it and is guaranteed to be another classic South African love song from her.

At just 25 years of age, Berita has a track record that has classified her as one of the most important voices of her generation now and is spear-heading the Afro Soul genre with a fresh breath and songwriting style that appeals to all.

“Nguwe Wedwa is a song I wrote inspired by a very special personal experience of love.

“In writing the lyrics I was particularly intrigued by the notion of one completely giving themselves over to the love of their life,” said Berita.

She said she composed a song for all joyful occasions like the ones she used to dance to when she was growing up.

“I reminisced over my childhood experiences of being a flower girl at family weddings. I remember in the midst of summer dance tracks there was always a beautiful African pop ballad that was a favourite. I wanted to create a song for those occasions, a song that would transcend time and always remind people of a time of joy, family and love,” said Berita.

When you listen to the sweet serenade of Berita’s Nguwe Wedwa, you can’t help but feel the emotion of love with this powerful track that will surely make an impact in the country over the next few months with both her fans and members of the music industry.- Sheila Afari/Showbiz Reporter
