HOCKEY Association of Zimbabwe (Haz) president Humphrey Chigwedere is still contemplating whether or not to run for another term in elections set for later this month at Chisipite High School in Harare.

All posts will be up for grabs in the association.

Chigwedere said he will only be in a position to decide in the next few days when nominations for posts open.

“One also has to be nominated, which is the most critical thing, but at the moment I really have to say that I have not made up my mind whether to contest or not,” said Chigwedere.

The Haz elections come at a time when the association is preparing for the Under-21 World Cup that will be held from November 24 to December 4 in Santiago, Chile.

A number of fundraising activities have been lined up, with a September 23 Golf Day set to cap the activities where an envisaged $20 000 will be raised. The government has also been approached for assistance.

“Officials from the Ministry of Sport and Recreation have since asked us to provide them with our budget, which they will have a look into. We had actually done that long back through the Sports and Recreation Commission, but I don’t know what happened to the document,” said Chigwedere.

The hockey head said in terms of actual technical preparations by the team, they were hoping to go into camp a week before departure for Chile, with all the locally-based players as well as those based in South Africa expected to be in camp.

“Our initial plan was to have a camp base in Cape Town and Brazil to acclimatise because the Chilean weather is the same as the two places, but funds don’t permit us,” Chigwedere said.

Zimbabwe will begin its quest for World Cup glory with a match against the United States of America on November 24 in Pool A.

They are together with Korea Republic and defending champions The Netherlands for the finals that will feature 16 teams.
