FORMER Highlanders FC midfielder Joel Ngodzo is being assessed by Harare giants Caps United with club gurus hopeful that he will make it into their 2015 squad.

If he makes the grade, the talented but stocky Ngodzo will hook up with his coach at Highlanders, Mark Mathe, who is now the first assistant coach to Briton and namesake Mark Harrison.

Makepekepe chief executive officer Joe Makuvire told Chronicle Sport yesterday:

“He will be assessed by our technical bench today (yesterday) and if they’re satisfied then we won’t hesitate as a club to add him to our books.”

He said Ngodzo is likely to be their last signing.

The former FC Platinum player was one of the players who were allegedly offloaded by Highlanders last season before new coach Bongani Mafu extended an olive branch to him which he, however, spurned.

The player told our sister paper B-Metro that he felt betrayed by Highlanders, a team he supported from a tender age.

“Highlanders betrayed me. They’ve somehow destroyed my career. I might as well retire. All isn’t well with my football career, these are trying times. I’m a Bulawayo boy but Highlanders has shut me out and as a result I’m planning to relocate to Harare,” Ngodzo is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Caps United have been invited to take part in a four-team tournament in Malawi but the former Cup Kings are waiting for confirmation of the Bob91 Challenge Cup fixtures before committing themselves.

“If the Malawi dates clash with our Bob91 games then we might have to turn down the Malawian invite because the Bob91 engagement takes precedence over everything,” said CEO Makuvire.

Indications are that Caps United will clash with Bulawayo giants Highlanders with the winner set to face Dynamos in the finals of the Bob91.

According to a Malawian paper, the Nyasa Times, Makepekepe were set to defend the Zambezi Cup which they won last year after beating Silver Strikers, Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers.
