MIDLANDS Pool League (MPL) and their rivals Midlands Pool Legends will today clash in a one day tournament hosted by the former.

The tournament which will feature the top five teams from either league is set to be held at Uptown Club in Gweru.

The MPL split last year into two leagues following elections which ushered Vandirai Hove into office and saw former chairman Edward Ganyani forming a splinter league, Midlands Pool Legends which took with it almost half of the clubs.

This saw the league suspend the Division One league following an exodus of some of the teams to the rival league.

The tournament is seen as part of efforts to heal the rift between the two leagues.

MPL secretary, Passmore Ndebvu confirmed the developments and said all is now set for the tournament.

“MPL’s top five teams will play a challenge match against Midlands Pool Legends’ 2015 top five teams in a one day tournament on a round robin tournament. However, teams from the same league won’t play against each other,” said Ndebvu.

He could however, not be drawn into commenting on the merging of the two leagues.

“We are sportsmen and as such there are no sour grapes, in any case what we want to see is the game being the winner at the end of the day.

Whatever happens in the future will be in the best interest of the sport,” he said.

Winners of the tournament are set to pocket $100 while the runners up will walk away $70 richer.

Third place has a $50 prize while fourth spot will take home $30.
