drama at the new venue.

The play is set to liven up the Amakhosi Elite 400 winter season that has seen several performances including music, dancing, comedy and traditional dances.
The Styx Mhlanga-directed play is expected to draw theatre lovers with two shows everyday until Thursday when the production rounds off.

The drama was, however, hit by uncertainty over who will play the lead role of Mother Courage as there were now two actors vying for the role.
Initially, Precious Makhulumo had been cast to play the lead actress but she abruptly abandoned rehearsals and went to Harare, where she is shooting scenes for the movie Gentlemen.
After Makhulumo left for Harare, Mhlanga felt it was prudent to replace her with Sarah Mpofu-Sibanda.
Both actresses featured in the hit soap, Amakorokoza.

However, Makhulumo later told the Press that she was still interested in performing the role.
On the other hand, Mhlanga said they will only be able to make the final list of the cast a day before the running of the drama.

The play is a tragic-comedy that examines war as a form of business and looks at human virtues in wartime.
It reflects how others strive in a situation where most are suffering.

Mother Courage is a parasite of war; she follows her armies wherever they are fighting supporting herself and her children with her canteen wagon.

She works tirelessly, relentlessly bargaining, dealing and celebrating the war as the breadwinner in her times of prosperity.
The play is also a setbook for Advanced Level literature students.-Chronicle
