MPILO Central Hospital in Bulawayo yesterday engaged the local business community to boost its ongoing programme of forging partnerships for the development of the health institution. At yesterday’s meeting 40 representatives from different companies that specialise in hardware supplies, construction and engineering joined hands to map the way forward in a bid to improve the referral hospital’s service delivery.

Mpilo’s chief executive officer Dr Lawrence Mantiziba said the hospital was slowly improving in terms of equipment and infrastructure, although there was much work to be done especially in repairing leaking roofs and replacing the old laundry machinery.

“Our institution’s roofs have outlived their lifespan, they need to be refurbished since the rainy season is approaching. We are afraid they will cause massive damage to other parts of the buildings that have been renovated,” said Dr Mantiziba.

The hospital administration took the business community on a tour of different places to see the challenges facing the health institution.
Still Towers sales and marketing director Mr Bongani Ncube expressed concern over the state of the institution, saying issues raised during the discussion need to be treated as a matter of urgency.

“This development is likely to result in the deterioration of health service delivery in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province and other surrounding areas that are getting serviced by the two hospitals,” he said.

Dr Mantiziba commended the public sector for its  continuous generosity to the development of the institution.
