National car, bike race event for Bulawayo

THE Bulawayo Motoring Club will play host to  its third leg of the national car and bike championship racing at the Victoria Falls Road Circuit on Saturday.

The event is expected to feature 14 races which are the Ultimate Street Cars National Sports Cars, National Superbikes, National Saloon Cars, National Megelli, Motorcycles, National Sports Cars, National Superbikes, National Saloon Cars, Megelli, Ultimate Street Car, and all national cars, Superbikes, Toyota Main Race and the National Megelli Motorcycles.

The winner of the 10 lap Toyota main race will get the Peter Parnell Trophy.

BMC vice chairman Zane Shah said that the 10 lap race is in recognition of Peter Parnell who raced in the 1960s and 70s and was an outstanding driver in the country and the region.

“The 10 lap main event is in recognition of Parnell who did his racing in the 1960s and 70s and was one of the best drivers of his time both in the country and region,” said Shah.

He said that the event will have national drivers and riders who will be looking to accumulate points from the national races for the final race in Harare at the end of the year.

“The event will have national drivers from various parts of the country who are expected to be at their best to accumulate points for the end of year final race,” said Shah.

In the Super Bike Series, riders expected to showcase the skills are Phil Archenoul, Gavin Randall and Graham Hill from Harare who are currently in the lead, Bulawayo’s favourites Ian Gutherless, Tim Shultz, Fuzzy Walker, and Dave Moaut while in the cars  the likes of the close and ever changing positions of Harare duo father and son team John and Brett Cameron  in their Lotus 7, local drivers Angelo Tavares, Darren Winterboer, Darren Pragji, Phil Minaar Jnr, Dean Norman, Zane Shah, Julian Van Duren, Phil Van Vurren, Sam Nyamapfeka, Jimmy Zevgolis, from the various national and club classes including the BMC Ultimate Street Car Challenge will run on the day.

Shar invited motor racing enthusiasts to come and support local Bulawayo drivers and riders.

The event is sponsored by Anderson Motors, Auto World Bulawayo, Auto Quip, Colour World Paint and  Hardware, L and L Mining Supplies, and Shield Security.
