NOMATHAMSANQA Nkwali Mkhwananzi feels that the launch of her music career came at the right time as her debut album won Best acapella album at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) last Thursday.

The former Iyasa performing artiste was ecstatic that she landed the accolade saying she would use it as a stepping stone for launching her career.

“A lot of people had been telling me to launch my career a long time ago but I felt that it wasn’t the right time. It was only last year that I finally decided to launch my career. The Zima award is true testimony that it’s now time for me to shine,” said Nkwali.

Boasting a powerful soulful voice that has landed her a role of lead singer in the international African Circus Mother Africa, Nkwali said she was not expecting to win the award.

“I didn’t expect to beat other singers in my category. I was happy that I was nominated. I entered the awards just to get that recognition. I was therefore shocked when I was announced the winner,” said Nkwali.

The soft spoken Nkwali said to launch her album she had to save money for the well attended show last year

“When I toured last year with Mother Africa, I was saving up for the album launch. I organised everything by myself with the help of others here and there because I believe it takes hard work to achieve want you want in life,” said Nkwali.

After a successful debut album launch last year, Nkwali is now preparing to hold a show in conjunction with Alliance Francaise at the National Gallery in Bulawayo on March 11.

“This will be my first show after the album launch and I’m confident it’s going to be a success,” said Nkwali.

The entry fee for the show has been pegged at $5.
