PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday appointed a 15-member Board of Trustees for the Development Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) headed by Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo.DTZ, a developmental initiative with subsidiaries in mining, horticulture, coffee and tea production as well as tomato canning, is a brainchild of the late Vice President Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo.

The trust owns Nuanetsi ranch in Masvingo province.

In a statement, Zanu-PF secretary for information and publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo, said Cde Khaya Moyo would be deputised by Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa.

“The President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF Cde RG Mugabe has appointed the following persons as trustees of the Development Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) with effect from 1 August 2014,” said Cde Gumbo.

The full list comprises Defence Minister Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, Small to Medium Enterprises Minister Cde Sithembiso Nyoni, Youth, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Cde Francis Nhema, Mines and Mining Development Minister Cde Walter Chidhakwa and Energy and Power Development Minister Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire.

Other members include Cdes Tongai Muzenda, Dr Nkomo’s daughter Thandiwe Nkomo-Ibrahim, Zanu-PF politburo member Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, Dr Charles Utete, Cde Herbert Nkala, former Attorney General Sobusa Gula-Ndebele, former deputy Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Cde Nicholas Ncube and Busi Bango.

Speaking to journalists at the unveiling of the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo’s statue and official opening of the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport last December, Cde Khaya Moyo said they would be reviewing all projects meant to preserve Dr Nkomo’s legacy that have been lying idle for years.

Cde Khaya Moyo said after President Mugabe appointed a new board, they would not only be revisiting all projects but adding more to fulfil the late national hero’s dreams.

He said President Mugabe as DTZ patron would not allow Dr Nkomo’s projects to fall apart.
