NOMINATIONS for all the races set for Sunday May 3 at Borrowdale Racecourse have been released. A total of eight events, each carrying $6,562 stake money will take place on the race day. From the list released by Mashonaland Turf Club, the local horse racing authority, a total of 160 entries have made their way through the preliminary stage. This is expected to be a unique race day with no feature race.

However, all eyes are expected to be on the Merit Rated 75 Handicap race over 1800M, a medium stayers distance. Eighteen long distance specialist runners from eight stables have been thrown into the hat to jostle for all the available slots.

A stake money of $6,562 has been declared and will be shared between the winning connection and the three placed runners to fly past the winning post.

Before the end of this week according the programme of events, stables will converge at the race course for the weights and declarations which is the second preliminary stage. After that there will be the last qualifying stage. Horses that pass the test at this final stage will be loaded into the stall gates for their respective races to determine the winner.

According to the racing manager Betina Gurajena, the wheels have been set in motion as preparations gather momentum.

“We are currently working flat out as we prepare for the next coming race. For now we are going through the preliminary stages and next week we shall be conducting the final qualifying stage which is the acceptance stage thereafter we shall print the card,” said Gurajena.

Considering that the last race meeting was abandoned, fans and punters across the country will be eager for this meeting.
