ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services (ZSPCS) Commissioner-General Retired Major General Paradzai Zimondi has condemned corruption and social media abuse by those in the prison service, saying it taints the organisation’s image and disturbs the country’s socio-economic development.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy Commissioner general Dr Alford Mashongo Dube at a graduation ceremony at Ntabazinduna Prisons’ Training School, Maj Gen Zimondi said in order for Zimbabwe to realise economic growth there was a need for corruption to be dealt with decisively by everyone.

“I wish to take this opportunity to strongly denounce the engagement in corrupt activities by members of staff, as well as abuse of social media. Such developments do not only put the offender’s personal conduct into disrepute but also tarnishes the organisation’s image as a whole,” said Maj Gen Zimondi.

“Corruption has proved to be a cancer in the service and the country at large. It also negates the country’s socio-economic growth and development. To attain such economic growth and development this calls for each and everyone of us to seriously consider nipping such vices in the bud.”

Maj Gen Zimondi urged Prisons and Correctional Services officers to be morally upright and to be committed to duty.

“Allow me to advise today’s graduands that the path you have taken is a preserve for those whose moral uprightness, discipline and commitment to duty is never questioned hence because of your prayer for rain be ready for the mud,” he said.

A total of 288 officers graduated in four courses at the joint pass out parade held at Ntabazinduna Prisons Training School yesterday.

The four courses were CO3 Supervisory, Intermediate security/Intelligence, Civic Education and Basic Military Police.  — @PrinceNkosy102
