THE Zimbabwe Under-19 national cricket team will today play its first match against the Lions Cubs of South Africa in Stellenbosch. The squad flew to Johannesburg yesterday morning enroute to Stellenbosch.

Lovemore Banda, the Zimbabwe Cricket spokesperson, confirmed the team’s departure yesterday.

“The squad left for South Africa this morning from the Harare International Airport to Johannesburg where they will connect to Stellenbosch before the end of the day,” said Banda.

The squad is made up of Ryan Murray who is the captain, Jeremy Ives, Brendan Mavuta, William Mashinge, Kundai Matigimu, Davis Murwendo, Rugare Magarira, Shaun Snyder, Adam Keefe, Blessed Muzite, Lawrence Magwenzi, Tatenda Chiradza, Sydney Murombo, Ardene Ruhode and Trevor Chibvingodze.

Walter Chawaguta, the Chevrons Under-19 coach, was accompanied by his assistant Alouis Tichana, Nicholas Singo, the team manager and James Condon, the physiotherapist. Banda said all necessary arrangements for the team’s stay in South Africa were made and they won’t face any challenges upon arrival for the Cubs week tournament.

Banda wished the boys good luck in their first game today.

“We wish the boys good luck in all of their games and we’ll support them through each game,” he said.

The Zimbabwean Cubs will play against seven South African clubs in the tournament namely the Lions Cubs, Cobras Cubs, Dolphins Cubs, Titans Cubs, SA U-17 Invitation XI, Warriors Cubs and Knights Cubs
