ZIFA has moved elections for its affiliates to March following a meeting of the association’s electoral committee last Saturday.

The Zifa electoral committee came up with a new roadmap for the polls, which saw nominations opening on Monday.

Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze advised the Zimbabwe Women’s Football, Zifa Central Region, Zifa Eastern Region, Zifa Beach Soccer, Zifa Masvingo Province and Premier Soccer League (PSL) that nominations will close on February 1 and the electoral committee will sit on February 6 to vet all aspiring candidates.

An appeal window for aggrieved candidates will be open from February 7 to10. Appeal hearings will be held between February 11 and 14 and the final list of approved candidates will be released on February 15.

Elections to choose a new PSL chairman, Zifa Masvingo Province chairman, vice chairman of Beach Soccer and three committee members, and the Zimbabwe Women’s Football executive will be held on March 5. Zifa Central and Eastern Region polls to elect new chairpersons will be held on March 6.

The Zifa electoral committee will meet on March 4 for logistical preparations before the holding of elections on March 5 and 6.

An earlier resolution by the Zifa board had scheduled the PSL and Zifa Masvingo polls to be conducted on February 13, with the two regional elections and women’s football being held on February 20. Beach Soccer had been scheduled to hold elections on February 21.

Zifa Central Region board member Stanley Chapeta said: “We received correspondence to that effect from the chief executive officer (Mashingaidze) and we are doing everything as a board to adhere to the new roadmap.”

Chapeta is also vying for the Central Region chairmanship.
