ZANU-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday said Zimbabweans from across the country should celebrate July 31 as it marked a resounding electoral victory and demise of opposition political parties. “The 31st of July is a significant day in the history of our party’s electoral calendar,” Cde Khaya Moyo said referring to the revolutionary party’s resounding victory in last year’s harmonised elections.

He said as chairman of the Zanu-PF National Elections Directorate, his team executed their job well hence the party won majority vote at the polls.
Cde Khaya Moyo, who is the Senior Minister of State, also led the campaign in his home province of Matabeleland South where Zanu-PF swept all the 13 seats.“Last year this month, Zanu PF defeated all opposition parties in a credible, free and fair election. The party registered a resounding win having won more than two thirds majority and our President Mugabe won more than 61 percent of the vote,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

“In honour of this day, President Mugabe is hosting a celebration party this afternoon. All patriotic Zimbabweans must celebrate this day where they are in whatever form.”

Cde Khaya Moyo called on the party leadership and membership to reflect, take stock and rededicate themselves to the success of the country’s economic emancipation programme, Zim-Asset.

He said they should also cherish unity and shun factionalism and corruption.
The victory by Zanu-PF dismantled the opposition with the Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC-T fragmenting after its senior party officials led by its former secretary general Tendai Biti broke away to form the MDC Renewal Team.

President Mugabe won 61 percent of the vote and his party amassed 197 seats in the Lower House and 37 in the Senate.
MDC-T got 70 seats in the lower chamber and 21 in the Upper House.

MDC led by Professor Welshman Ncube got just four proportional representation seats in both chambers.
With a clean mandate, the revolutionary party is intensifying its programmes to indigenise ownership and control of the country’s natural resources.
