GET ready to witness the rise of a young tennis prodigy as Bulawayo’s Emmyl George, a 12-year-old sensation, prepares to represent Zimbabwe on the global stage. Armed with incredible talent and unwavering determination, she is set to compete against the best junior players from around the world in a series of prestigious tournaments.

From 23 November to 20 December 2023, George will showcase her skills in three renowned tournaments held in the United States of America (USA), specifically in sunny Florida. The lineup includes the highly anticipated Eddie Herr, Little Mo, and Orange Bowl Tennis Championship. These events attract top-ranked players from 76 countries, making it a true test of George’s abilities against the crème de la crème of junior tennis.

But here’s the catch: a mere US$10,000 stands between George and her dreams. For any aspiring tennis professional, these tournaments provide a vital platform to shine. Florida, known as the epicentre of junior tennis, offers a remarkable opportunity for young talents to develop and master their skills.

The required funding encompasses various aspects, including entry fees, transport, accommodation, tennis equipment and supplies, unforeseen expenses like local transport, visa fees and processing, and participation in a pre-tournament camp. These essential components are necessary to support George’s journey towards excellence.

“The next generation of greatness in tennis is by no means a walk in the park. The circumstances of life lay fate that hallow the athletes, however the detriments may never be stumbling blocks. Great man of faith faced the challenges of fate and overcame their adversaries by their simplest forms of belief. If the Lord is for us, who may be against us,” read a statement from the youngster’s father who is also her coach, Mkhululi George.

In light of these financial obstacles, George and her family are appealing for assistance from generous companies and individuals who can help turn her dreams into reality. Contributions can come in various forms, such as donations towards the total budget, support for specific needs like air tickets, and even the arrangement of branded gear for official sponsors, adhering to the sport’s regulations.

“No contributions are small. We appeal to you, her community, to join in her journey to greatness,” said Mkhululi George passionately appealed.

Among the tournaments awaiting George is the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship. As one of the most significant junior events in the world, it brings together a staggering 800 top-ranked female and male players aged Under-12 and Under-14 from 76 countries.

The tournament boasts an illustrious list of alumni, including renowned professionals like Andy Murray, Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, and Francis Tiafoe, to name just a few.

Furthermore, the Little Mo tournament serves as a gateway for players to attract potential sponsorships, with agent scouts keenly observing the young talents in action.

George’s tennis journey began at the tender age of five, and since then, she has competed in a remarkable 140 tournaments, amassing an astounding collection of 120 awards and medals. The upcoming events offer a crucial opportunity for her continuous growth and improvement.
