POLICE in Bulawayo are investigating an armed robbery that took place at Sino Hydro Complex in Emganwini suburb after 15 robbers attacked five workers and made off with 11 rolls of copper plates.

The incident occurred last Friday at around 11PM.
The robbers were armed with machetes.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the accused persons used a bolt cutter to forcefully unlock a storeroom door where the copper plates were kept.

She said a wheelbarrow was used to carry the copper plates.
“The accused persons were later disturbed by other workers coming from other rooms and they ran away. A police report was made and a bolt cutter which was used in committing the crime was recovered in a nearby bush,” said Asst Insp Msebele.

She said the total value of the stolen copper plates is yet to be determined.
In a separate robbery case, Asst Insp Msebele said on Saturday, a 44-year-old man from Pelandaba surburb was robbed of his Samsung phone and wallet at a bar in the city centre.

The complainant had gone out to buy a cigarette when five unknown accused persons grabbed him by his belt and robbed him of his phone and walllet.

Asst Insp Msebele said when the complainant went back to the bar, a man who was also drinking at the bar, handed over the stolen wallet to him but when he opened it, he discovered that all his bank cards were missing.

“Police are urging companies to invest more in security to protect their workers and property,” said Asst Insp Msebele.–@ReeSibanda
