TWO darts players died and one was injured in a car accident at the 104KM peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway last Friday. The players were travelling to South Africa for the Zone 6 Mines Darts Championships when they met their fate.

Desire Dube from Zvishavane and Janet Wiskoti from Golden Valley in Mashonaland West died on the spot after the vehicle they were travelling in burst its left rear tyre and rolled several times. Dube was buried in Zvishavane on Monday while Wiskoti was laid to rest in Golden Valley on Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle, Grace Bauloni, was seriously injured and is still admitted at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo. Steve Mwarindira of the National Darts Association of Zimbabwe confirmed the fatal accident and said the deaths were a loss to the sport.

“We’ve lost a national player Janet who has played darts from 1990. She was a good player and it’s tragic that she is no more. Desire was supposed going to sign for another team next year and it’s such a sad loss,” said Mwarindira.
