GERMAN-based songstress Nkwali continues to fly Zimbabwe’s flag high. She recently featured in South African DJ Zwesta SA’s deep house track Rafiki whose music video has been released.

Rafiki means friend in Swahili and the song is reportedly getting heavy rotation on radio stations in South Africa.

The music video was shot on two locations Port Elizabeth, South Africa and Berlin Germany. This was because Nkwali is based in Germany the producer, DJ Zwesta SA is based in PE. The music video is in two contrasts one with Nkwali all alone at scenic sites in Germany while DJ Zwesta SA partying up a storm in South Africa.

It took them a week to shoot the music video and over a month for it to be ready for its release date which was November 8 on video sharing site YouTube.

Nkwali who has a powerful voice that she controls with ease, is new to house music said she wanted to try out singing the genre that she dabbled with before through another producer called K.O.D (up and coming Bulawayo based producer Simbarashe Kodzai) .

She said she was happy that DJ Zwesta SA was interested in producing the track adding she met him through veteran radio personality Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda.

“It was a challenge but a good experience as well. I’m an Afro Soul, Pop, Acapella singer and deep house was new for me but I guess doing some lines for one of K.O.D’s beats helped a lot,” said Nkwali.

She said seeing how the music video came together was a relief as it was hard working on it.

“Working on the video was not as easy as we there was the issue of sending video files back and forth but of course technology played a big role and everything fell into place. In the end I’m really happy the teams we worked with both in Germany and South Africa did a splendid job now looking forward to performing the song live,” said Nkwali.

The Port Elizabeth based DJ Zwesta SA said it was great experience working with Nkwali on the track and was impressed at how the music video is being received in South Africa.

“I feel blessed as the song has opened many new opportunities. The shots were done in Germany and SA at a new place called Vegas. The owner of the place invited me to shoot there as he wants to host international events in the future,” said DJ Zwesta SA who is originally from Zimbabwe.

He said plans were afoot to place the music video on international music platforms such as Channel O next week.
