All set for Copa Coca Cola Midlands finals

EIGHT district champions will battle it out in the Copa Coca Cola Midlands provincial football finals set for today at Chaplin High School in Gweru.

The winner will represent the province at the national finals to be held in Bindura in two weeks’ time.

Gweru district will be represented by favourites Guinea Fowl High in the boys’ Under-15 category. The school has partnered with Castle Lager Premier Soccer League club FC Platinum as a breeding ground for talent.

Regina Mundi High will represent Gweru in the girls’ event and also go into the tournament with the favourites’ tag judging by their  performances.

Kwekwe will be represented by Munyati High (boys) and Rio Tinto (girls), Zvishavane has Govarizadze (boys) and George Chipadza (girls) and Shurugwi has its flag being flown by Svika (boys) and Chisungo (girls).

Chirumanzu’s Otto Drift will represent the district in both categories, while Mberengwa has Mnene High (boys) and Mbuya Nehanda

High (girls) and Gokwe’s Musikavanhu (boys) and Musadze (girls) complete the participants.

The Nash Midlands head-in-charge of football Eunias Zhou implored schools to guard against age cheating. “We expect a very good competition and I just encourage schools to play the game in the spirit of fair play. We want to avoid cases of age cheating as much as possible,” Zhou said. — @lavuzigara1
