IT is all systems go for the second edition of the Phenomenal Lighting and Power Solutions-powered Phenomenal Festival of Lights set for Gordon Park, a surreal campsite housed within Matobo National Park.

The festival, which runs from today up to Sunday, is an idea by UK-based lighting designer Mildred “Lighting Bae” Moyo. It aims to highlight the importance of lighting and will create a vibrant networking platform for those who work with light; performing artistes, lighting professionals, filmmakers, photographers and lighting students.

In an interview, Mildred Moyo expressed readiness for the lighting extravaganza.

“I’m excited that it’s finally happening. I believe we’ll have an exciting time characterised by a good turnout and innovative use of light by the students we have from the Phenomenal Lighting Masterclass we had earlier on,” Moyo said.

This year’s edition promises to be even more exciting, with the addition of top performers to the original line-up. Jeys Marabini, Othnell Mangoma, and Albert Nyathi will be joining the already-impressive lot of Thandy Dhlana-Jele, NaSibo, Curry C, Vera, Matojeni Melo-Maniacs (MMM), DJ Yugoe, Klara, Reilo and Simz Masuku.

Moyo said esteemed guests will also join in on the fun.

“We’re honoured to have Farai Mpfunya, the executive director of Culture Fund Zimbabwe officiating at the event. Among invited dignitaries will be the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Jobst von Kirchmann,” she said.

The Phenomenal Festival of Lights is one of the many projects being supported by the Culture Fund through the creativeACTIONs2 grant funded by the European Union, as well as that of the US-headquartered lighting equipment company, Electronic Theatre Controls.

The inaugural edition held at the same venue last year was a success and it featured performances from prominent musical acts. —@MbuleloMpofu
