SOLDIERS have been urged to maintain discipline and patriotism in safeguarding the gains of the country’s Independence to ensure security and peace.

Speaking at the Zimbabwe School of Infantry first half graduation ceremony in Mbalabala on Friday, Chief of Staff, Administration, Staff Major General Paul Chima said the army has zero tolerance to indiscipline.

He encouraged graduating soldiers to be dedicated to their duty of protecting the country.

“As you go back to your units to serve, I ask you all to discharge your duties with patriotism, devotion and commitment. Indeed, today, more than ever before, the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) requires members who are well trained, disciplined, loyal and dedicated to duty,” he said.

“It is through these attributes that the force has succeeded in all its operational undertakings since our independence.

“The security of our country and its people is in your hands. That on its own is a heavy responsibility which should not be taken lightly. Only the patriotic and the most diligent among you can bear it.”

A total of 450 soldiers graduated in nine courses with 29 being women.

Maj Gen Chima encouraged soldiers to embrace courses in cyber warfare, climate change and other new courses that were introduced in their syllabi.

“The branch will always ensure that new subjects such as asymmetric warfare, cyber warfare, climate change, international terrorism and anti-poaching are included in the training syllabi. I therefore urge you to take keen interest in these new subjects and concepts,” he said.

Maj Gen Chima applauded female soldiers for participating in various courses as it enhanced gender equality in the army.

“It is pleasing to note that more ladies are being enrolled in physically and mentally demanding courses that are run here at school.

“This in line with the ZNA policy which endeavours to provide equal opportunities for all its members regardless of gender,” he said. Maj Gen Chima encouraged women to work hard to be at par with their male counterparts.
