THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) and Midlands Athletic Board have announced their provincial teams for the National Cross Country Championships to be held at Morris Depot in Harare on February 7. BAB named a 22-member team that is set to leave for the event on Saturday morning.
BAB chairman Manuel Mpofu said they were confident of victory and encouraged the team to train individually and to stay motivated.
“We’re conducting the final preparations this week and we can’t over emphasise the need for them to stay fit and avoid injuries. We’ve got butterflies in our stomachs just like our opponents, but we’re confident of victory,” said Mpofu.
“We’ve always come out tops with all our athletes finishing their races and we want that same winning mentality to be part of this year’s team.”
Athletes will compete in the junior women and men categories. The junior women will race over 6KM while their male counterparts will run 8KM. The senior men and women will compete over 10KM.
