LOOKS surely deceive. At first glance, one would be exonerated for thinking that this 23-year-old fella is a teenager.

He is not.

Baby-faced Tatenda Simkai, self-dubbed, ‘Coolest DJ on the Southern Hemisphere’ is a force to reckon with in the media circles as he has worked for both Diamond FM and Zi FM Stereo.

Chronicle Showbiz tracked down the talented DJ from the highlands of Mutare, who is behind the DriveZW Podcast.

“I’m a simple young man who is trying to make it big in the world. I’m obsessed with radio and music. I love to entertain and explore new things,” said Tatenda.

His newly-established podcast is aimed at the youth, especially those who are into music. It has been graced by popular spinners DJ smith and Jungle Loco. Musicians that have featured on his podcast include Tanto Wavie, Tamy Moyo, Msizkay, Vuyo Brown, Denimwoods, Obi Makaveli, Leona lilie, Takue Music, Bryan K amongst many others.
“The gist of this podcast was and still is, to give artistes a platform to talk about their talent and also to interact with their fans,” he said.

Tatenda has been rubbing shoulders with the who’s who in the radio field as he has been hosting Zi FM Stereo’s outdoor shows with Patience Musa.

Since 2017, he has been living his dream and learning from the best in the business who include Munyaradzi ‘DJ Munya’ Milimo and Star FM’s Kudzai Violet Gwara, better known as KVG.

“I have always been a radio fanatic and my dream finally came true in 2017 when I met  Patience Musa. From then, we’ve been so close and she has taught me a lot about radio. It has been 4 years of nothing but good experience. I’ve learnt quite a lot with radio,” commented Tatenda.

Working behind the scenes as a sound engineer, the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) student has honed his craft and his silky voice has had him doing jingles.  — @eMKlass_49
