former ambassador to South Africa and current national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo as a candidate for Speaker of the House of Assembly.
The Politburo met in Harare last week and endorsed Cde Khaya Moyo’s candidature.
In an interview, the provincial chairman Cde Isaac Dakamela applauded the decision saying Cde Khaya Moyo was a seasoned politician and professional man who doesnt need any introduction to issues that need diplomacy.
“He is the right candidate, not that he is our party member but due to his vast experience in the diplomatic field and political circles.
“He is a tried and tested cadre that I urge all legislators to consider those facts when the time to elect a speaker comes. He is a man who can work with anyone across all political divide,” he said.
The Speaker’s post fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified former Speaker Mr Lovemore Moyos election in 2008.
However, the MDC-T has retained him as their candidate for the same position whose elections are due to be held any time soon.
Cde Dakamela said the former ambassador brought with him rare skills that saw him playing a pivotal part in avoiding Zimbabwe invasion by the enemies.
“When the United States of America wanted to use South Africa as their springboard to attack us, Cde Moyo worked hard to convince former President Thabo Mbeki and President Jacob Zuma against allowing American soldiers in their territory.
“The man has excellent negotiating skills and can instil discipline in the August house, he said.
The provincial chairperson said the nation would have quite a knowledgeable Speaker if Cde Moyo wins.
“Frankly, if you compare him with the other candidate who coincidentally happens to be another Moyo, he is second to none.
“Hopefully some of our brothers in the opposition will see reason and back us,” he said.
“As Bulawayo province we are all in agreement with the decision taken by the politburo. These is not a single dissenting voice within our rank and file.
“The province has unanimously supported his candidature and we hope he is going to win openly.”
Cde Dakamela said he expected to see Parliament proceedings being brought to the people so that the nation knows what is happening in the August house.
“I think Cde Moyo has what it takes to put into action the broadcasting of parliament so that the nation would be aware of what is taking place there.
“With Lovemore Moyo that was not happening and we hope our candidate will win and implement that. He is more experienced than his MDC counterpart,” he said.
Meanwhile, the provincial chairman has again taken a swipe at people who peddle falsehoods about the Anti-sanction Petition Campaign currently underway across Zimbabwe.
“I want to dismiss the utter rubbish being peddled by some sections of the media claiming that Zanu-PF is forcing people to sign the Anti-sanctions petition.
“We have never at any given time coerced anyone including our members to sign. Many people are doing it on their own accord without any undue force from the party.
“It is not a secret that these sanctions are biting everyone including those who are in the MDC that I do not see any logic to force people,” he said.
