THE Carling Black Label National Pool Championships will be held at Kubatana Bar in Zvishavane today. This year’s edition of the event had 1,000 pool players participating in the provincial finals.
Last year the event attracted 800 participants.

The defending champion, Takura Chauraya, who won last year’s edition at Raylton Sports Club in Bulawayo, is expected to be at his best as he defends his title.

Delta Beverages, who are sponsoring the event through their Carling Black Label brand, said hosting the finals in Zvishavane is a way of promoting the sport around the country.

“Delta’s vision to enhance sport and culture in the country is well partnered by the objectives of the national association and the players or supporters at large,” the brewing company said in a statement.

Zimbabwe Pool Association president Trust Chifadza said that all preparations have been made and they are ready for the competition to start this morning.

“The provincial championships were monitored by a member of the national pool association executive committee, who was assisted by the respective provincial councillor,” said Chifadza.

With a $1,000 winners’ cheque up for grabs and a host of other prizes lined up, stiff competition is expected.
