Chiefs troubles persist

IT appears troubles at Bulawayo Chiefs Football Club are far from over as some senior players are boycotting games insisting they want to be paid their salaries first.

On Sunday, the Moyo twins, Kevin and Elvis together with Kelvin Madzongwe were not part of the team that won 2-1 against Herentals at Luveve Stadium.

Against Highlanders, Kevin was serving a suspension together with Perfect Chikwende and skipper Malvin Mkolo.

In the build up to that Highlanders match, Chiefs only trained once with the Moyo twins and Madzongwe not attending that fine tuning session. Madzongwe and Elvis were not part of the match day squad against Highlanders.

According to sources Madzongwe and the Moyo twins are leading a revolt over unpaid salaries and absconded last week’s training programme.

Chiefs are said to be owing players salaries for four months but the amount that the club owes players could not be established.

Bulawayo Chiefs assistant coach, Thulani Sibanda could not be drawn to comment on why some of the senior players were missing from the side in the last league outing.

“We missed our senior players owing to other reasons,” said Sibanda.

Asked what he meant by other reasons, Sibanda said he was not in a position to comment on the matter.

He however said he was hoping the players will be back before they play the Chibuku Super Cup final with Herentals on November 19.

“Hopefully by the time we get to the final, most of our senior players will be with us. Possibly we can plan with them being part of the team.

“It’s obvious for me as a coach I am more comfortable with Elvis Moyo and Kelvin Madzongwe in the side than the youngsters you have seen against Herentals.

“We will see as time progresses if they will be able to come back. We are a stronger team with them,” said Sibanda.

Chiefs players recently wrote to the Football Union of Zimbabwe (Fuz) asking the association to help get the Premier Soccer League to withhold prize money for the Chibuku Super Cup and for the league position so that they can share it among themselves.

Some of the Chiefs players are said to be prepared to walk away from Amakhosi Amahle due to the club’s failure to honour its obligations.  — @innocentskizoe
