From Aaron Dube in Johannesburg, South Africa
AMAZULU FC coach Steve Barker has described former Warriors goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro as a potential backbone of his team’s success in the second half of the South African Premiership season.“Murambadoro is a top class goalie with experience in the beautiful game. He will definitely be in goals when we play the Soweto giants Orlando Pirates tomorrow in our backyard at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban,” said Barker yesterday.

Barker said he decided to throw in the former Zimbabwean international goalkeeper after Murambadoro showed great character and leadership during training sessions.

“Murambadoro has shown unbelievable leadership and potential in a short space of time he has been here, he has managed to re-organise his defence very well which had serious weaknesses previously.

“With his vast experience in the game I hope AmaZulu will be a tough team to beat,” he said.

Barker is impressed with his mid-season training and believes his team will yield better results especially with the arrival of Murambadoro to stave off relegation.

The AmaZulu coach has high hopes for the veteran goalkeeper.

Barker described the debut game for Murambadoro specifically against Pirates as a tough assignment and believes he will withstand the pressure as an experienced goalie.

Murambadoro who had a stint in Israel and played for Bidvest Wits before moving to Mpumalanga Black Aces will be playing alongside Warriors defender Carlington Nyadombo who is the team’s captain.
