sale of non-existent houses has been arrested.
Nyarai Murapa (33) of 3818 Unit G, Seke, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts last week.
Murapa, pleaded not guilty to a fraud charge involving US$8 000 when she was arraigned before Mr Don Ndirowei, who remanded her in custody to March 16.
She was denied bail due to the gravity of the offence and that she was likely to abscond court because she has a previous conviction for fraud and spent three years behind bars from 1999.
Murapa denied being part of the syndicate and stated that she was tasked to conduct the bogus deal by one Shepherd Munemo and one Tizora (both still at large).
Prosecutor Ms Svodai Kadivirire alleges that on February 28 Murapa advertised in The Herald that she was selling a stand in Waterfalls for US$8 000.
Tapiwa Debra Masango responded to the advert and set an appointment at the Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza, it is alleged.
Sango – who is alleged to have been conned of US$8 000 in similar circumstances last month and was trying to track down the people who had defrauded her – alerted police de- tectives about the meet- ing.
