Council to craft 5-year plan Mr Christopher Dube

BULAWAYO City Council has said it will craft a five-year strategic plan in due course to complement Government’s economic blueprint, the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP).

Government is in the process of implementing the TSP whose thrust is to leapfrog the economy towards attaining the upper middle class status by 2030.

The economic blueprint which was launched last month runs up to December 2020.

In an interview yesterday, the city’s Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube said the municipality is set to hold a strategic workshop to facilitate the drafting of the strategic plan.

He said the workshop will run from December 17 to December 21.

Mr Dube said the local authority will take into consideration policies being implemented by Government in coming up with its strategic document.

“It’s very important we do that (align our policies with Government policies). We are in a unitary state we cannot do our own policies that are devoid of national policies. We certainly have to consider them,” said Mr Dube.

He declined to comment on some priority projects to be considered in the BCC’s five year plan.

“I don’t want to pre-empt what would be discussed in the strategic meeting. The strategic document obviously is going to take into consideration national policies,” he said.—@nqotshili.
