NYARADZO Group yesterday unveiled a four-week tournament to be run by the Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC).

The tournament starts today, with all games being played at BAC, while the final will be held on October 13 at Queens Sports Club.

The tournament will feature four men and two women’s teams. Participating men’s teams are Roosters, BAC, Queens and Emakhandeni in the men’s category. Stormers and Rivals are the two registered women’s teams.

Zimbabwe Cricket Bulawayo provincial administrator Nicholas Singo said a trophy and prize money will be up for grabs.

“The winners will walk away with $200, a trophy and medals, and the runners-up will get $100. The other participating teams will get $50 each,” said Singo.

“We would like to applaud Nyaradzo for sponsoring talent through cricket. They have set a good example by demonstrating that there is a lot to be achieved as a country through sport.”

He said outstanding players in the tournament will get a chance to play in the country’s professional leagues.

“This tournament will give players game time and a platform to improve their quality. We will use the white ball instead of the red ball so that these players get used to it,” said Singo.

He said the teams will comprise experienced and young players from schools and encouraged parents to go and support their children.

“This is an off-season tourney where players are expected to stay fit and showcase their talent. The objective is to promote cricket by ensuring that players stay focused on their talent and stay away from bad behaviour,” Singo said. – @DecoDecent2
