Dream achievers slay

THE High Tea I was talking about the other day — I eventually went. It was all kinds of lit and I must say it was an afternoon well spent.

The High Tea was an inaugural event hosted by the Dream Achievers Club. It was nice to see so many women in one place encouraging and building one another.

It was all positive vibes. No gossiping and bringing each other down like is sadly synonymous with women. Seeing women in pretty dresses, heels and fascinators really warmed my heart.

It’s not every day that anyone gets to dress up like that, but it’s a sure reminder of how important it is to embrace your femininity and dress up like a girly-girl whenever you get the chance.

Besides drinking tea and looking pretty, the Dream Achievers’ High Tea also provided a platform for women to network and learn from each other.

One of the speakers whose presentation is still ringing at the back of my mind spoke about how certain diseases are linked to some of our behaviours, food choices and the lifestyles we lead. She made a lot of sense when she spoke about how important it is to take care of your body. Of what use is it to be rich and unhealthy? Health is wealth, literally.

What use are you to your dreams if you’re unhealthy? If you’re going to achieve your purpose in life, you have to make important lifestyle changes and live a healthy life. And you know what, when you do a crappy job at taking care of your body, your clothes will always do a good job at reminding you of this.

I think you’d rather not wear certain things because they’re not your style or you just don’t like them and not because your body doesn’t allow you to.

It somehow also affects your confidence. You start to look for clothing items to cover body flaws that a couple of sit-ups can fix. When you become negative about your body type and the things you can and can’t wear, you limit your wardrobe choices.

You really don’t get to slay as much as you would like because you constantly have to make choices to accommodate your fixable body discomforts.

I often hear many women talking about how they can’t wear a peplum top because they have a bulging tummy. Some would kill just to be able to tuck in a blouse into their skirt or pants but their tummies won’t let them live.

I don’t have a six pack myself but I’m glad I realised in good time that I needed to take control of my eating habits if I wanted to wear the clothes I want to wear and not those my body wants me to wear.

Eating lots of fruits and vegetables, foregoing junk food and the sugary treats and having water instead of that Crème Soda can be hard but trust me, it’s beneficial to your health.

Besides getting rid of the love handles and being able to wear a body-con dress and heels, your skin will also appear healthier. And you know what a healthy skin is good for? It’s your billboard and the first thing people see when they come into contact with you. When something on your face isn’t right – whether you’re wearing make-up or not — your confidence levels also diminish.

A lot of problems people have with pimples are as a result of what they eat and drink. Too many fatty and sugary foods are your skin’s worst enemy.

How good or how bad your diet is will always show on your hips and on your face. You pretty much have the power to control how you look and ultimately what you can wear.

Don’t subject yourself to granny pants and baggy T-shirts because you’re too lazy to walk for 30 minutes per day and burn the extra fat. Flaky lips are not cool. Now your lipstick won’t go on well because you don’t want to drink enough water in a day. Eight glasses of water per day will do you a whole lot of good. I know ice cold Mazoe has a classic taste but don’t quench your thirst with juice — drink water and you’ll love how your skin will look.

If you’re going to achieve your dream and walk in your purpose, you may as well do it while you’re healthy and slaying like there’s no tomorrow.
