Educationist Philip Ndlovu laid to rest

VETERAN educationist and former Mtshabezi High School headmaster, Philip Ndlovu, who died last Friday in Bulawayo has been buried.

He was 90.

The family said the former administrator for the Brethren in Christ Church (BICC) schools died at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo last week on Friday and was buried on Monday at Umvutsha Cemetery.

“We have lost our dad, and we will miss him,” his daughter Zibusiso.

According to his biography, Ndlovu who acquired a certificate in primary school teaching in the 1950s, spent most of his years in the education sector and taught at Silobi Primary School and Sikithi Primary School from 1945 to 1949.

He also taught at several Brethren in Christ schools including Nsezi, Matopo, and Mtshabezi High.

In August 1959 Ndlovu married Julia Moyo and the couple had three daughters, Sithembile,  Zibusiso and Ntombizodwa.

He later enrolled for a degree at the University of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1963 but crossed the border to Zambia in 1965 and continued with his studies at the University of Zambia.

Ndlovu also taught in Zambia and was a headmaster at several schools until his return to Zimbabwe at the attainment of independence in 1980.

He was later elevated to become an education officer for Matabeleland South province until retirement after which he was roped in as the administrator for BICC schools.

One of his former students in the 1987 class, Nokuthula Moyo, who is a lawyer by profession said  Ndlovu was an inspiration to many.

Moyo said the late veteran educationist set a good example for many learners and was trusted by parents and many education stakeholders.
