CEPHAS Moyo, a local event planner who specializes in organizing private parties in the city is reportedly in trouble with authorities after it was revealed that he is in the habit of hosting ‘gay’ parties in the city.

Moyo, who runs an independent event planning organisation, initially focused on variopus small scale parties, using his skills and connections as a barman in the city to get his customers.

However, it has since emerged that he had since diversified to hosting ‘gay’ parties targeting the LGBTI community in the city, where they would go around various venues in the city and also the outskirts of Bulawayo.

The parties were reportedly exclusive, invite only events.

Nevertheless, the attract the wrath of the police after residents complained that the parties were since causing a public nuisance and had not got any clearance.

“We initially got a complaint around these so called gay-parties that were being held in various locations in the city. It was difficult for us to raid them because they were shifting around hence we could not pin point when and where the next party will be.

“However, our investigations later revealed that these parties were actually being organised by one Cephas Moyo, a popular event planner in Bulawayo. We contacted him requesting him to come to the station for questioning, which is when he disappeared and efforts to interview him ever since have been fruitless,” said the police source.

The police revealed that Moyo had since moved from his last known address, with relatives and friends professing ignorance on his whereabouts.

Moyo’s friends however revealed that he had informed them that he feared arrest because of the gay parties which are illegal in the country.

“He said he felt he was targeted as his crime was just being an event planner who was approached by various clients wanting to hold events and would not discriminate on his clientele,” said one of his friends who declined to be named.

It is further alleged that Moyo is believed to be a member of the opposition MDC where he was also holding similar vigils for opposition members.

Moyo was born in Matopo, Matabeleland South where he was groomed into the entertainment industry at an early age, before starting his own event planning company he has worked at various bars in Bulawayo and was also attached with a number of cruise ships internationally.
