RISING AFRO-jazz musician Selmor Mtukudzi is over the moon as she stands a chance to scoop her first award after being nominated for two awards in the Pachedu ZimOnline Radio Awards.Yesterday, she launched another promising single, Ndinochengetwa naMwari featuring celebrated gospel musician Mathius Mhere and it aired for the first time on the airwaves.

Selmor who rocked the airwaves last year with the hit track Nguva Yangu (Space Yeyi) has been nominated in the Hit Song of the Year, as well as Music Artiste of the Year 2013.

Selmor is the daughter of superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and married to Tendai Manatsa, son of the legendary musician, Zex Manatsa.
In an interview, Selmor could not hide her joy following the nominations.

“I am excited, it’s my first nomination ever and I am hoping people will vote for me. I compose my own music and its amazing that my talent is being recognised, its a wonderful feeling,” she said .

Selmor and husband last year parted ways –musically after she decided to go solo. She has four albums to her name namely, Shungu, Live, Ndinewe and Expressions which features the track Nguva Yangu.

She says she draws inspiration from many artistes among them her father and the late Chiwoniso Maraire.
Selmor who has openly declared that her father is not supportive of her musically, says she is already working on her fifth album to be released in May.

“I have a number of live shows lined up this year and my album will be out in May and I worked with gospel musician Mathius Mhere on my forthcoming album,” said Selmor.

The categories that Selmor has been nominated are tightly contested and the winner is chosen by fans through voting.
In the hit song category, Selmor’s Nguva Yangu will compete with Jah Prayzah’s Ngoda, Kubhaguja Bhaguja by Sani Makhalima, Kupenga Kuti Pee by Nox and Mafans Angu by JC Chitate.

In the musician of the year category, Selmor will battle it out with the likes of Jah Prayzah, Sebastian Magacha and ZimPraise
There is a total of 15 categories for the awards that include Radio Presenter of the Year, Radio Show of the Year, Presenter “Catchphrase” of the Year, User “Tagline” of the year and Facebook group member of the year.
